Governor and First Lady Burgum stand on stage at Recovery Reinvented

Join us for the seventh annual Recovery Reinvented

State and national addiction experts will share their insight into how to turn ‘Advocacy into Action’ at the seventh annual “Recovery Reinvented,” an event dedicated to ending the shame and stigma surrounding the disease of addiction. The experience will be hosted by Gov. Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum and will be free for both in-person attendees and online via livestream broadcast on recoveryreinvented.com.

Recovery Reinvented is free and open to the public, but space is limited, and registration is required. Registrants will be asked to indicate if they will attend in-person or virtually for the day-of experience and may update their registration status at any point.

We’re thrilled to have you joining us for the seventh Recovery Reinvented. Below is important information to know regarding the day-of event and what you can expect from this jam-packed day!

In Person 

Event registration will open at 8:00am in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. You DO NOT need to bring any physical ticket or print out information from Eventbrite, as we will have your information at the registration tables – so head to those tables when you arrive. You will see volunteers wearing Recovery Reinvented T-Shirts who will assist you.

When arriving to Minot State Campus on Thursday morning, it’s important to note that the northbound left turn for Broadway and University is currently under construction. We advise taking 5th Ave to enter campus or taking a right on 3rd or 4th Streets NW onto University Avenue. Attendees may also proceed on North Broadway to 11th Avenue NW and take a left onto campus. There will be signage directing where you should go.On-site parking will be available at Minot State. All campus parking lots are available for parking which includes student parking, employee, and both student/employee parking lots.

Speakers

Dr. Lipi Roy

Dr. Lipi Roy is an internal medicine physician board-certified in addiction medicine, founder of SITA MED (an addiction/health speaking company), a sought-after international speaker, media personality as well as host of the YouTube series, Health, Humor and Harmony. Dr. Roy served on the frontlines of the pandemic as the Medical Director of COVID Isolation and Quarantine Sites at Housing Works in New York City. She also treated patients with opioid use disorder at a harm reduction clinic in the Bronx while working at multiple COVID vaccination sites. Dr. Roy’s work spans academia, clinical medicine, homeless health, social and criminal justice, public speaking, media and entertainment. As the former Chief of Addiction Medicine for Rikers Island, Dr. Roy oversaw substance use treatment and recovery services at the nation’s 2nd-largest jail complex. Dr. Roy also serves as clinical assistant professor at NYU Langone Health.

Dr. Stephen Loyd

Dr. Stephen Loyd is an Internal Medicine/Addiction Medicine physician who graduated medical school and residency from the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He currently serves as the Vice-President of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Loyd was the Assistant Commissioner (Opioid Czar) for Substance Abuse Services in the Tennessee Department of Health and Substance Abuse Services in Governor Bill Haslam’s administration. He has served as an expert witness in more than twenty federal and state cases against physicians who were improperly prescribing controlled substances. Dr. Loyd was named an Advocate for Action by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), an office of the President of the United States. He has delivered over five hundred educational lectures on addiction and treatment of opioid use disorder and proper prescribing of controlled substances. Dr. Loyd was an original member (still active) of the Treatment of Chronic Pain Guidelines Committee which defined pain treatment for providers in the state of Tennessee. He has worked as an Addiction Medicine Physician in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, specializing in the treatment of opioid dependent pregnant women. Dr. Loyd has served on multiple drug courts in Tennessee and remains an active participant in drug court in the 4th Judicial District under Judge Duane Slone. He has worked with multiple community level anti-drug coalitions from Johnson County to Shelby County and has worked with all levels of state law enforcement, mainly the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Cedar Recovery in Tennessee and is the current Chair of the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council appointed by current Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. Dr. Loyd has been in recovery from opioid and benzodiazepine addiction since July 8, 2004.

Scott Davis

Scott J. Davis is a well-known figure in North Dakota, having served three Governors and 23 Tribal Chairs as Executive Director of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission from 2009-2021. Under his leadership, over 15 compacts, accords and agreements were passed between the Tribes and the State. Following his appointment, Scott served as the Head of Native American Community Outreach for Sanford Health’s Bismarck Region where he explored innovative solutions to ensure Native American patients across the great plains had access to quality healthcare services. As a member of Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and a descendant of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, he has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between Tribes, States and the Federal Government, helping his people to be heard and understood. He continues this work today as Founder and CEO of Tatanka Consulting Group. He is seventeen years sober.
